Low Isle Tours – Wavedancer

Wavedancer is operated by the tourism award winning Quicksilver group.

The Wavedancer vessel is a 30 meter sailing catamaran which can carry up to 150 passengers to Low Isles daily, making it ideally suited to larger groups and families with young children. Although it is important to note that the soft sand on Low Isles is not suitable for prams. The island is Heritage listed and a natural wonderland, there are no facilities or shops on the island.

This big Wavedancer sailing ship offers you the opportunity to breathe in the sea air on the spacious deck under the sails or enjoy the comfort of the air conditioned lounge and a fully licensed bar whilst you cruise on the Great Barrier Reef.

Departing from the Port Douglas Marina it only takes Wavedancer 70 minutes to reach the secluded paradise that is Low Isles.

Once there, the vessel moors in the calm lagoon and guests are ferried from the boat to the beach on two shuttles and the coral viewing vessel. These vessels continue operating throughout the day so you can come and go from the island to the boat at your leisure.

Low Isles has a beautiful wide sandy beach where you can relax under the shade of the palm trees and the permanent thatched umbrellas. The shallow water allows families with young children to safely enjoy the reef in a sheltered lagoon. Snorkeling and swimming is a breeze in the calm waters around Low Isles and there is a snorkeling supervisor on hand for guidance. You can partake in an organised snorkeling tour or discover the fragile coral species and brightly coloured reef fish whilst staying dry on the coral viewing boat.

Visitors keen on exploring the significant and interesting history of Low Isles, can participate in  the “Heritage Walk” around the island. This fascinating tour of Low takes in the landmark lighthouse, the weather station and ranger’s house. Your guide will explain the importance and human use of the island in the past as well as its on going current purpose. A guided beach walk is also conducted with a Marine Biologist who will shed some light on the sea creatures who inhabit the water’s edge and the variety flora and fauna found both on Low Isles and the island opposite known as Woody Island.
